11 EPIC members toured this year and the tour to Lisbon was a great success, with the Hotel Baia perfectly placed on the waterfront at Cascais providing the perfect base. The hotel staff proved to be very friendly and the local restaurants were of good quality and reasonable priced.
On Friday we play Oitavos Dunes in bright sunshine with David Wannerton (29) and Andy Fewings (27) taking the honours.
Day 2 saw us at Penha Longa Resort on the Atlantic Championship Course which was very picturesque even if the tees and some of the greens were a little disappointing. Paul Springall (33) and Neil Blundy (32) proved to be too good for the rest of us.
Of course we then had to endure the England capitulation; however a pleasant meal was enjoyed by all before some serious drowning of sorrows commenced.
The final day started with some rain but in true EPIC style it stopped as we stepped onto the first tee at Aroeira Golf Club which was probably the best presented of all the courses although not as scenically as good to look at.
Here David Jenkins (37) outplayed all and overall won the coveted ‘Green Jacket’ by 1 point from Paul Springall.
Congratulations to David Jenkins on his success (and his management of the whip) and many many thanks to David Wannerton for a well run and thoroughly enjoyable tour.
Let’s hope for a great turnout next year when new captain Nick Archer will organise his tour starting on the first Friday October 2016; so 7th- 9th October inclusive.
